He denies wrongdoing and claims any relationships he has had were consensual. In an open letter published last year, he said: “Never, ever have I abused a woman.”A case brought by the French actress Hélène Darras was dropped by prosecutors last month for being past the statute of limitations. But another case of alleged rape and sexual assault against the actress Charlotte Arnould remains open. In December 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron caused controversy by claiming Depardieu was the target of a “manhunt”, adding that France’s highest honour, the Legion of Honour, should not be withdrawn from him over charges of sexual impropriety. The BBC contacted Depardieu’s agent for comment regarding the latest claims.Related TopicsFrance#MeToo campaignMore on this storyFeminists criticise Macron over defence of DepardieuPublished21 December 2023Depardieu’s obscene remarks shown in new documentaryPublished8 December 2023Top StoriesLive. Inside Gaza: Follow a day in the lives of Gazans as war nears five-month markHope for Gaza ceasefire by next week, says BidenPublished30 minutes agoHunt considers National Insurance cuts at BudgetPublished36 minutes agoFeatures’Who will call me Dad?’ Tears of Gaza father who lost 103 relativesWhy firms are racing to produce green ammonia’Daily life is a struggle without my ADHD medicine’Secondary school places: What parents need to knowWalkers spot ‘breathtaking’ cloud inversionsThe young refusing to become Myanmar’s ‘human shields’Plane aborts Heathrow landing due to strong winds.
